Too much certainty creates inflexibility

One of the ten reasons you don't have succes: Too much certainty creates inflexibility. If you’re sure that your plan is correct, and refuse to accept the possibility of error, you may well find yourself stuck when an unexpected change comes about, or when your plan takes you in an unexpected direction. Success? It's your mindset!

People exhibiting the fixed mindset tend to overestimate their skills, and they focus a great deal of energy to protecting their own self-esteem and hiding any deficiencies and "proving themselves" to others. They tend to shy away from challenges and instead focus on repeating what they already do well. And when things go wrong, they tend to search for places to put the blame.
The growth mindset believes that talents and abilities can be improved through passion and effort. Always. People with the growth mindset are less concerned about image in the short term, and more readily accept difficult problems that challenge themselves in hope of learning and growing. [Source]

For a career: Follow your heart

It sounds so simple: Figure out what you love and find a way to make a living at it. Many of us get hints early in life. (...) And later on, "if we find ourselves bored or not fully engaged in our work, we should try to determine what aspects of the job engage us and those which don't. Don't focus on what others want you to do with your life, make sure it is right for you." [Source: 5 keys to career happiness]

There's nothing wrong with routine, but do it with care

Most of our time is spent doing mundane tasks: sleeping, eating, driving, dressing, bathing and grooming, checking and replying to e-mails, paying bills, watching TV, trying to organize paperwork, and making sure the kids get to the bus on time. Even celebrities, who we imagine to lead glamorous and exciting lives 24/7, have a lot of normalcy in their routine. Humans across cultures - and across the globe - play out these same scenarios every day. There's nothing wrong with the concept of a routine. What I'm saying is that when we're focusing on them, they should be thoughtfully based on what we want to accomplish. [Source]

Grow slowly

Did you know there are great professionals who would have continued enjoying what they did if only they didn’t have instant success in the beginning? Their instant success destroyed their motivation, focus or brought pride that always proceeds a fall. Then this leads us to some basic wisdom. Enjoy the hardships of your growth — the rejections from publishers, the prospects who don’t return phone calls or e-mail messages, the challenges of lacking the resources you need to get to the next level or the less than spectacular results you are getting from your weight loss efforts. The dues of hardship that you pay in your learning process might largely be the parameters that will prevent you from “social death,” instant success. [source]
